MODULE 3
WHEN should the Alabama DLCS course of study be taught?
"Technology allows digitally and computationally literate students to transition from being simply consumers of information and media to being producers as well. The goal is for Alabama students to be at the forefront of exploring these technological opportunities."
~ Alabama Course of Study: Digital Literacy and Computer Science
A majority of the DLCS standards will not be taught in an isolated manner. They need to be integrated into a rich curriculum. Integrating technology adds an additional layer to learning in the classroom, and it can be the unifying piece for the entire curriculum.
INTENTIONAL
INTEGRATION

How do we move Alabama's students from consumers of technology to producers?
Dr. Ruben Puentedura established a fantastic tool to help with integration: The SAMR Model

The stages of the model provide a framework for how technology can be used to enhance learning possibilities that would not be possible without technology.

As tasks move from lower to upper levels of taxonomy, they also move from lower to upper levels on the SAMR model.

Examples of online apps that could be used for tasks across the framework of the model. The goal is to to modify and redefine teaching and learning. Every task will not be in the REDEFINITION category. Teachers should to think about why they are utilizing technology and what will benefit the students most.
How will students utilize these integration tools and remain safe, private and secure in an online setting?
